Safety comes before the catch. Consider a properly fitted life vest, drinking water, basic first aid supplies, sun protection, an emergency foil blanket and weather awareness appropriate for the trip.

Watch for lightning, dehydration, slippery banks, poisonous plants and snakes. Children should be supervised around the water.
